Unhappy Carputer won't go past post - USB issue

This ones got me baffled. Did a search and found a few similar problems, but moreso related to external HDs.

I've just got GPS going, and have now put in an active USB extension cable to put the receiver in the front (carputer in boot). It worked fine for about 3 days, only problem being it wouldn't re-detect the cable/hub and receiver after boot/hibernation. All I had to do was unplug, replug and away she went.

Today I got around to setting up devcon, but the troubles have got alot worse. Now it won't boot. It gets to the post screen (big blue HP logo), and just freezes. Same deal wether I reboot or resume from hibernate. It's got me stuffed because it was working perfectly for a few days beforehand, and only started to play up today. I disabled USB legacy support (although it boots fine with just my usb mouse), but to no luck. The computer is a cruddy ole HP Pavillion 8513 (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...&lc=en#N10066).
    Any ideas guys? Cheers.

One of my laptops refuses to boot/post until I unplug the USB hub connected. Tried with a different USB hub and it worked fine.

My Epia M10000 won't boot with a Sandisk 256mb USB flash drive plugged in. Unplug it and it boots fine.

Boot from removable devices used to be first in BIOS boot from list, but is now last. I'll try removing it alltogether. Still just seems wierd that it all of a sudden stopped working, with no hardware or bios changes. Cheers guys for the suggestions so far.

    Add me to the list

USB CD Rom if plugged in will not boot, if plugged in after Windows boots, all is fine.

Same with USB memory stick for storage.

I spent some time on the VIA forums reseaching this and it is a definite issue with VIA boards. Apparently there will be a SP3 from Microsoft that will help.

Unless I get the resolved, there is no point in having a slot load DVD in my setup
