Alright, I know the title sounds a little odd but let me tell you of my dilemma. Alright, I am making a home mp3 player for my dorm. Anywho, Its an old slimline desktop case with one CD-ROM bay and one floppy. I decided to remove the CDROM in order to make room for a fat harddrive (it was an old piece of crap anyhow). The motherboard only supports SCSI devices so I decided to get a full height beast and save myself some money. I knew how hot most of them get but decided my case which already has two powerful fans could handle it. As it turns out, they cant. :-(
So, I putting one of those dual fan hard drive coolers in the CD-ROM bay to chill that sucka out. Now, coming to the LCD part. This leaves the most convenient location to put an LCD display in the floppy bay. Mine measures 1 in. by 4 in. I imagine I could probably mount a 2x20 in there with minimal cutting. The front face of my case has about an inch of buffer space before it reaches the metal parts of the case. Now, do you think that this would be the best way of going about it? anyone build a home MP3 player? anyone own a full height SCSI hd? if so, what kind of cooling do you use? will running hot shorten its life severely or is this just a way for companies to sell hd cooling fans? most of all, am i right in saying that most 2x20s will fit in the 1x4 space i have?
