I've got a Dell GX240 SFF that I'm converting into a carputer, and I'm not completely clear on what type of devices the USB 1.0 can't handle. I've got a PCI card in the mail to give me a couple 2.0 ports, along with a 2.0 hub for more ports. I plan on running a GPS mouse, a gyration Ultra GT keyboard/mouse combo, and occassionally an external HDD with its own power source for importing movies.
Normally this would be a no brainer, just stick the USB 2.0 card in there and be done with it, right? Well, I've only got one expansion slot in this thing from what I gather.

What I think I would rather do, is leave the USB card out, and go with an upgraded video card, as I understand the on board video pretty much sucks.
So with all that being said, what all would I be giving up by sticking with the 1.0 ports vs the 2.0?

1.0 is 1.5 Mbit/s (thats 200 Kbyte/s)
1.1 is 12 Mbit/s (that's 1.5 Mbyte/s)
2.0 is 480 Mbit/s (that's 60 Mbyte/s)
And these are theorical speeds (read "never reachable" in real life)
1.1 is OK for mouse, kbd, tsk, gps, TSK, even a zip USB250 will work fine.
BUT if you want a DVD or a hdd or a webcam in 640*480 @ 30 fps, you'll definetaly need a USB-HighSpeed ( real official name for USB2.0) capable card.
That pretty much settles it then, thanks for the help guys.Originally Posted by DeltaFX
