Didn't read the whole thread, just about to eat, but have you checked the temp in the BIOS?
Huh? I never said that, or if I did it was a mistake cos I haven't got any non-standard cables in there

No your right, my mistake... what page was I on ?
Progress [I will seriously never be done!]

doof, I don't have temperature readings in my bios, only voltages and fan speeds. It's a Via M10000 mobo
you def. should have temp readings... I have the same board...
Your bios uptodate ?

maybe not then, is it in the pc health bit?
Just checked and my BIOS says it's revision 1.16 which is the latest one on the VIA website. Where are the temp readings in your BIOS?
I just noticed in your signature that you have an MII mobo. Is that an out of date sig or do you actually have that, cos it's different to the M10000 that I have
It's just done it again. Windows 98 crashed (big suprise) and when I pressed ctrl alt del it died again!
Could it be the ram? I'm running out of ideas
*EDIT* Ok here is an idea. I just altered a setting in the bios which was the one about what to do if the power fails (stay off, switch on etc). I changed it to switch on and now when it shuts itself, if I unplug it and then plug it back in, it turns on. Does this mean it is a power failing issue and if so should I replace the mains adapter or psu?
Becoming a total post whore now but I wanted to update you and bump this at the same time.
Last night I left the cmos battery out and unplugged the mains to get a nice reset on the bios. After setting the time and putting the CD-ROM as first boot device I tried again installing XP (from a freshly burned CD). Thus far it seems ok, didn't reboot during the file copying like normal and had begun the process of installing when I left the house today. I will update this post (not post another one!) when I get home and see whats gone on.
Update: I got home and it was installed and still on! Went to the Via website to get updated drivers and before I'd even hit the home page, bang. It went again!
Good luck Tim![]()
