edit - just founf this guid to reduce power consumption
anybody want to comment before I try (and prob blow the chip up)
Just typed its number into google, never thought much of it before, its come back as a 1700+ palomino and 89 watts.
That explains a lot.....
Since I now want to change it, and maybe the mb, suggestions please.
I want a full size mb with raid onboard, I plan to raid 2 CF cards to get the speed back that a simple CF card wont do. or raid 2 laptop drives.
I use a kg7, or was it a ka7, so keeping that is an option. (133mhz fsb tops)
So maybe just the cpu to swap, but these amd things are odd, lots of same speed with odd names, IE palomino, barton, thonton, then the mobile.
Its an headache waiting to happen.
Am I right in thinking mobile is best and thornton 2nd best option?
no, oh well I'm going to try it later today and I'l let you all know if it works.
If your m/b allows for it, you could reduce the voltage going to your processor. This will reduce heat and power without need for a new proc. Not saying it will solve your problem, but it very well may. I wouldn't go any lower than 1.25V, but I'd say try 1.35 first.
