    MY01 Subaru RX first carputer

    Hi All,

I've been looking through some of these threads, great work.. I can't find anyone that has done a subaru install where they have fit the pc in the 2DIN space behind the screen. Is there a reason for this?

I wedged a ruler down in the slot between the factory stereo and the plastic placeholder above it and it seemed to go back 215mm, since the MiniITX boards are 170mm x 170mm, it should fit.

Also, where have people put their Optical drives? I am thinking about one of the two locations in these photos for a slot load DVD. How hard is taking the cup holder out? is there room behind the bottom of the centre console (i think there was another thread where someone found the air bag controller there.. sounds expensive to break.)

Thanks guys.. btw- i am an aussie in sydney if there are any others out there.

    Cheers
    Hugh

ForesterPerformance is planning on doing this with his GC8. You could ask him if he's finished it or not. Hope this helps!

Check the MP3CAR.com store for the impreza screen, premade to fit this location.

I've done it, don't recommed it. It took me about 45 min just to pull the PC out of the dash whenever I wanted to work onit, wiring was not easy, it required soldering to the motherboard (not enough room for connectors to fit on the motherboard), having the CCFL inverter so close to the RAM stick caused system freezes.

Now I have the PC in a case under the seat. Takes seconds to pull the cables off the case and I can drag it into the house to work on it.

im in melbourne, im installing mine into a MY01 Subaru RX,... Liberty that is..

bottom of the center console IS the airbag control unit.
its covered in yellow, yellow plugs, yellow heatshrink.. DO NOT TOUCH IT, or go near it..

open up the dash to work out how much room you got. There is some chassis cross members that run in there, and you might have stuck your ruller in through a gap or something.
open it up and measure it up.. dont overlook cooling too.

use the cupholder location for the drive.. take off that front panel, and stick it to the drive, so when its put back into the dash it looks flush.
