    Composite out on mini-itx.

Does the composite out on the mini-itx boards give the same picture as the vga out?

Does it show the same thing? It maybe possible to cloned it, so yes. But it depends on the board. One of mine is an iBase MB870. The TV out uses the same pipeline as the VGA, so its either one of the other; can't use both.

Composite out looks like crap compared to VGA.

How do you like the MB870 board? For instance, can you suspend-to-ram with that board w/o issues? Does it kill the power to the USB ports on shutdown?

The reason I ask is that when I was originally shopping for carputer parts a year ago, I was either going to get the iBase MB870 or the Insight P4-ITX.

I opted for the latter, and it appears to have been a poor choice since Insight went out of business, and there will never be any BIOS updates to correct the issues us P4-ITX owners have with the board.

    Sorry for the threadjacking.

Going into stand-by hasn't been very reliable for me. It sometimes takes a long time, and sometimes never turns off at all. I don't think it cuts the USB power on standby; and I'll verify USB power on shutdown for you. I know it doesn't cut the power to fans in standby... lame! At idle it draws around 2.1 amps, and in standby... 1.9 amps! I always hibernate to disk because of this.

But I still love it! The ATI Mobility IGP does a pretty nice job -- good enough to play HL2. The biggest issue I've had with it is, the IGP/northbridge heat sink did not have enough thermal compound to make contact between the heat sink and the indention in the chip. Corrected that and added a fan, JIC.

After much waiting, two days ago I got my hands on the new MB896! So, I guess, my MB870 will be retired shortly.
