Dell X50/X51V VGAout + USBhosting = limited carputer

I started this thread at aximsite.com:

    http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...700#post885700

I was doubting about starting the discussion here, but I think the major scope turns about USB hosting for touchscreen interface so I found aximsite.com more appropiate.
    I will see you there!.

Sorry for those who think a PDA is just an organizer or it is a blasphemy using it as a carputer. That is the reason I call that a limited carputer.
But I recommend not to despreciate a PDA running at 640MHz w/graphics processor w/VGA resolution and the only one in the market able to output VGA signal.

    Dell propoganda

The Toshiba E805 as doing that waaayyyy before the Dell, and several other PPCs can do VGA out at this point as well (hell there are also CF solutions for this as well).

NO,NO, I do not like Dell either because I hate the big drawback not having USB hosting.
I do not own any PDA yet, I mentioned X51V because it is the only one I found with VGA out.
You are right E805 maybe was the first one having VGAout, I did not mention it because it is and old model hard to find. Current model E830 does not have VGAout.
You are also right, there are CF solutions, the only one I find is from ColorGraphics and it costs almost like a whole PDA.

If you know any other solution please let me know, I am to buy a PDA with VGAout and would not like to buy a X51V because it does not have USB host.

Just curious, why would you need USB host for ? And why can't you use monitor provided by PDA (3.5'') as touchscreen device ?

Having a PDA_VGA_out + in-dash 1-din TFT w/touchscreen, it seems to be only half work done if not having TS working.
Since I decided that configuration I found several people who would like it too:

USB host is for the touchscreen, or attaching an external 3.5" HD w/ music, etc..

The e800 series can use a VGA connector that adds both usb host and VGA.. costs about $30 IIRC.

Most of the CF VGA devices can be a little choppy (though there are a few good ones), and cost around $100, but don't have USB host.

x50v already has VGA out. So it should not be a problem for you.

Right, I want to use PDA as a hidden carputer with a 7" TFT w/TS as the only user interface, as any other carputer!
