sounds hard. If you had a monochrome screen, it would probably easier to code a program to control that. im not sure what you wanted to do with the keypad. THen again, just pay $20 and get a monochrome screen with controller and software...
Before i ask, i did search for 'hacking cellphone' and one unrelated thread came up.
Has anyone considered hacking up their cellphone and using it?
My cellphone is on it's way out, and today i started thinking about maybe mounting the keypad in the center console (actually, i just want the four way, which i was thinking could work just like the arrow keys on a normal keyboard).
Also, a cool idea might be to utilize the small screen somehow. Maybe displaying track info or something along thoes lines. Plus, it's a color screen. Though, the problem is probably going to be the same with a laptop screen in that I would need a controller for it, correct?
Just asking for some ideas on why this would be a good/bad idea.

For the keypad, i just wanna use various buttons to control certain functions on the computer. For example, the up/down button on the cell keypad i would wanna use to scroll up and down through long lists and such.
that would work, not a bad idea... i have a huge dash so it didnt really make sense to me but now i can see if its a car that would be a great idea, not too hard to do either...

Re the keypad, it's on my project list. I have a USB gamepad and just need to find something with slightly more attractive buttons. Just id the connections on the phone board and run them to the gamepad.
