    Mounting (with HD in mind)

What is the best way to mount the comput with the HD in mind? Keeping the platter horizontal or vertical? I have mixed thoughts and figured this was the best place to find out.

    THANKS

N00b, you need to seach first and do some reading here before asking a question. There's a forum called FAQ Emporium that has a lot of good information and will likely provide answers to the majority of your questions.
For some reason, there's nothing addressing this topic in the FAQ Emporium. I'll remedy that as soon as I turn off my flamethrower.

There's many threads on this very subject on these forums, so there's no need to add another one so that when someone DOES search on this topic they have one more thread with little or no information to weed through.

This is why n00bs get all ****ed off. There's so many damn threads to read through that it's difficult to locate worthwhile information. You, sir n00b, have increased the problem with this thread.

The answer is this: There is no evidence that mounting the HDD in one orientation or another has any impact on the reliability of the drive. If it's a concern, some additional shick and/or vibration protection in the form of rubber/silicone/nylon washers will help protect the drive.

Friggin' n00b... Learn to search first, then ask questions if you don't find the answer.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

ahh so thats why "n00bs" get ****ed off. I was under the impression that it had something to do with replys like that. Glad to have someone that isn't afraid to stick up for the new guys by... um... bashing the new guy?

Gibsurfer, while I don't agree with his methods, there is point to be made by the search tool. A 10 second query yeilded this for you:
Hard drive shock / vibration thoughts

    That's ONE reason n00bs get ****y.
Another reason they get ****ed is because they make one post that could be answered with a 10 second search (as you pointed out) and get flamed to a crispy golden brown.

i'm not bashing the new guy. I'm bashing a n00b. There's a huge difference. That needs to be put into the FAQ Emporium as well. That is my next project.
A new person or 'newbie' is just a matter of longevity, or lack thereof. A n00b is usally a newbie as well, but they take the attitude that they should be given any information they ask for, rather than trying to do research on their own.

And I'm not sticking up for anyone. I'm merely stating that many n00bs complain that searching for answers takes too much time because there's so many threads to weed through that don't have any relevant information. And thread that ask the same question that's been many times over make the problem that much worse.

So search first, ask questions later. You, sir, certainly have the right idea. Let me be the first to commend you on choosing to research your own information. I give credit where it's due. It's definitely due you. (Say THAT ten times really fast!)

Oh, and there's a topic on this now in the FAQ Emporium. The other suitable 'canned response' is to go look there for answers. It can now be used in response to questions about hard drive mounting.

you people really get ticked by this way too easily. Yeah i found it in the FAQ section. Not responding at all would have been just as powerfull of a message. But whatever.

First, i'm not ticked. You may interpret that, but it's not the case.

Second, I disagree. If nobody respons, then the n00b has one more thing to get upset about.
There are threads here that have been ignored in hopes of the n00b actually looking up their own answers. They only get more upset and bump it with "Why does nobody answer my question?!?!?!" or something equally as lame.

There's really no easy solution to the n00b issues. I do what I feel is appropriate, which is pointing out to the n00b exactly how their post worsens the problem. I also give them their answer or a link to the answer, but only once.

Etiiher way, I hope my addition to the FAQ Emporium helped answer your questions about hard drive mounting.

i'd have to agree, your posts were more time wasting than his question, and surprisingly, the answer to his question is still a rather unknown answer. its not like he asked "how can i get mp3s to play through my speakers?!?"
