    Carputer/Screen Solution

Double Din 6.5" TS monitor lowers to view DVD Slot Drive

I am thinking of purchasing this unit - gutting it, and installing the carputer in it. This is what I have been looking for. It is a little pricey, but I should be able to reuse a lot of its parts... (T/S, DVD Drive, possibly the P/S, Case, ETC) Let me know what ya think!

This appears to be a video screen, not a VGA screen. If it isn't VGA, you'll be disappointed.

This is meant to be a standalone dvd player mainly.. a computer would look bad on this screen.

    1) That screen will only allow composite input. The PC display on a composite screen will look marginal AT BEST. It will probably look like ****.
    2) It's a lot of work to adapt that touchscreen so it can be used by a PC. Are you sure you're up to it? I'm certainly not.
    3) The DVD drive is just a DVD player. It won't read data discs.
    4) While we're at it, the P/S isn't going to be useful for anything except this unit.

I think you don't have a clue about what will work well with a PC installation. My suggestion is to visit the FAQ Emporium here and do some reading before you commit yourself to something that you're going to regret later on.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

I am a newbie - no doubt about that... I wasn't about to click "buy now" or anything like that but I do want my carputer to have that overall design.

I want to install my carputer in the dash.
If I use a 7" then I won't have room for a DVD drive without significantly modifying my dash, that's why I was looking for a solution with a motorized screen... (I hate the ones that eject out and fold up - I think they look stupid.)

This is my ideal solution - not this product but this design.

Actually, there's a guy that makes bezels for GM vehicles with a double-DIN dash specifically for Xenarc screens.
Granted, you still have to deal with the DVD drive and everything else, but it gives you a way to mount a screen with no dash modifications.

Thank you, I'll search for that. Maybe he would be interested in modifying his design for something similiar to this.

An all in one solution like this would really take the market by storm. (Especially with a HD that was preloaded with a frontend... This would be the ideal commercial solution.)

slim slot load DVD players are really small, with a dash the size of yours you should be able to fins a spot that would require ver little modifaction.

I stuck mine in the top part of a dash compartment.

Actually, looks like you have A LOT of room to play with.

Is this what your dash area looks like?

If it is, I'm sure someone could photoshop something that would work for you.

    Peace,

    Rafster
