Symatec Ghost. It's the best, bar none.
In fact it's the only Symantec product I recommend.
You can always get another IDE cable with two drive connections on it.
What is the best/cheapest way to replace a hard drive?
I have a 12G laptop drive that I want to replace with a new 80G. I would like to be able to move all of my current software, XP etc. to the new one without having to buy new licenses. I do not own and have never used any ghost imaging software. My IDE cable only has one connection for a 2.5" drive. Should I bite the bullet and buy some imaging software, if so which one? Is there a better way to do this?
yes i agree.get the latest version of symantec ghost either 9 or 10 and make a full image of the drive to a network location or whereever.
If you have enough free space you can create the image on the laptop hard drive and set it to create image file sizes of 700 megs if you want to burn em to cd/dvd.
Then put in ur new hard drive and boot from the ghost cd to restore the image on to this spanty new drive.
Its possible to use ghost 7 aswell(we use this at work) as it is on a floppy disc.
you can get a demo of ghost on their website i think(but it woint give you the bootable cd ,however if you could put ur new hd into a pc (using an adaptor) you could restore it on windows using only the demo.
Note :if the demo is not avail for ghost then get the one called symantec livestate recovery desktop (its the corporate version of ghost)

Thanks guys, I think I'll get the Symantec Ghost 9. It's cheaper than the latest great V 10. For what I need it for, it should work fine. Thanks again guys!
