DB 37 connector for "extension cable"

Would there be any forseeable problem in using a DB 37 connector to bring all of my signals from the computer (in the hatch) to the screen, GPS, and stand alone EFI? Basically I'd be hacking up a VGA, serial, and 2 USB extension connectors, and soldering them into a DB 37. Then run however many wires through some shrink tubing to the rear with another DB 37 that has the other ends of the cables to go to the computer... That'd make removal of the computer itself from the car a lot easier, and would make installation into the car fairly simple.

The connector itself shouldn't cause any problems. Just be sure you use care in how you wire it. Try to maintain each cable's shielding and twisting as much as possible. I expect vga to be particularly picky about it. PLEASE let us know how it goes. I plan on doing the same at some point.

I'll definately let everyone know how it works.. If it does, it'll make pulling the computer out of the car (for software upgrades, major changes, etc) MUCH MUCH easier..

    Cool

    Hi!
I tried something like that but only with USB ( 6 usb conectors onboard), using a D25 plug... However, I used 6 usb cable extensions, male-female, and cutted the male ones, leaving the wires soldered to the plug.
They are about 1,8 meter long, and work perfectly well! No problems with the D25 "interception".

But this work is pretty less significant that the one you are trying to do...

    Good luck!

Well, that at least gives me a fair amount of hope that this will work :P

By all means, hope away. The question is not whether it will work. The question is whether you will be lazy enough to **** up the first one and have to do it over because you're getting a dirty vga signal.
