Honestly, i've had 2 cars both with mag mount XM and mag mount GPS antennas, I go through both styles of car washes (brush and brushless) without any issues whatsoever.
but I can't say i've ever seen a through hole XM antenna
I can't seem to find one ANYWHERE! Everything seems to be the mag mount style.
I'm evidently one of the few weirdo's on the planet that actually WANT to cut a hole in my roof and mount an antenna. I just think it'll be more secure.
I've thought of using one of the antennas from the new GM trucks, but I can't seem to find those used anyway, maybe I'll check out a dealership, though I imagine that'll be super expensive.
Is a mag mount really that secure? Can I go through a car wash with it on? I don't intend to ever remove the antenna, so a permanent, through roof mount is very attractive to me.
I've searched quite a bit, so if I've missed something, I appologize!

Well, that's somewhat encouraging.
I'm still keen on the OEM look though. Maybe I'll just mag mount it for a while, and see how it goes.

My mag mount has been through countless carwashes as well without a problem at all. It has also been rained and snowed on. Worked through the snow without a problem of course.

My Impala came with an OnStar antenna so when I installed my XM antenna I unscrewed the Onstar antenna and ran the wire through the stock opening in the roof. The XM antenna sits behind the OnStar antenna and looks factory.

This is the sort of thing I'm after. I'm thinking maybe I can just find an antenna "cover" or something like this. That way all the wires are hidden.
I just hate the idea of a wire running to some trim or something. Seems kinda amateur.

What about mounting the antenna in the car. I'm not familiar with XM but I have my SIRIUS antenna mounted on my dash tucked into the corner and I don't have a signal problem.
I am also looking for thru-roof antennas for XM radio.
It does not have to be of specific shape. But, I want a permanent mount with antenna wire thru the roof of my car by drilling a hole thru the roof.
Any URL for such antennas would be highly appreciated!
I have used the micro antennas as a through the roof antenna. The XMMicro antenna works best since it will allows the wire to be turned down through a hole just large enough to push the connector through. Once positioned use a silicon sealant around and in the hole then pull the wire taught pressing down on the antenna. The magnet base with hold it in place and you end up with a clean no wire installation. It works perfect. I always place the antenna in the center of the roof just in front of the sun roof and behind the windshield. This allows the hole to be drilled through the roof from inside the sun roof switch cover and the wire is hidden under the edge of the windshield molding over to the door pillar and down under the dash to the radio. This same thing would work if you want the antenna in the rear of the roof.
It is a nice clean installation and there are no wires visible Works for me.
