I advise you to spend your money on a good player.
    Lots of decent screens around.

I used to have seperate screen and cheap dvd player. No name honk konk ebay supplied
    Player packed in
wouldn't read discs anymore, ("you get what you pay for" I guess )
no repair shop had a clue how to fix it.
Screens still working, no use without a player though

    I'm currently using THIS
After finding some very good reviews on an aussie website, this thing does it all.
Got it real cheap in a very rare auction of these, gonna sell it and recoup all the money it cost me, maybe more, when the summer comes when I'll have all the carputer bits ready to install.

Yeah i saw that.... but it just seems kinda hard to justify buying something that costs twice as much that still a no name hong kong brand.

Either way it still looks really cool! If the dvd player dies i can always pick up another cheap one off of ebay again or buy a decent brand name for 200 bucks.

How long did your dvd player last before breaking?

Dvd player broke in about 4 months, no point in sending it back, shipping/customs charges.

If I had searched some more read reviews and spent a bit more on a good player I would still have the same setup, and never stumbled on this site.

Dunno if that was a good or bad thing now,

coz I got the carpc bug now

I used the screen in my first install, using an old k6II-500 running win98se. And the flip out screen.

I was lucky to get my new unit for the price. Just over 200 sterling.
    So am confident I'll recoup.

Depends on what your wanting from your system.

My Non-vga's was ok using low a res.
I only wanted mp3 and the occasional vid.

    But thats another topic completely

The standard two-pane gui you get on every dvd player.
None for cds, they just play with the front screen showing

    Downside;
180 mp3's on a cdr, and only 10 tracks on show.

New unit is the same so organisation is key

You only really need VGA for txt and navigation.

Text was readable enough to pick out folders to load into winamp.
    Gotta use CAPITALS though

Navigation looked ok too, my mates handheld has video out, used it on a couple of roadtrips, couldn't read the street names though.
