AMD CPU question - Dual dualcore's?

Hi all, I'm looking into building a dual dualcore computer for myself that will have applications in my home theater and car sound system. I know right now, only AMD's Opteron setups have the right architecture to full utilize a dual dualcore setup.

The Opteron 165 is nice, but it's 939 PIN, and I need a 940 PIN to utilize the correct MB's to run this dual dualcore setup. I'm really confused by the naming structures of Opteron's, so here's my question:

What is the lowest priced model Opteron that is 940 pin AND dualcore? Thanks for any info guys!

Is this really that hard to look up on AMDs site, or a whole host of hardware sites?

...Bah, I got curious and looked it up :P. The Opteron 265 is the lowest end dual core dual proc-able chip. It runs about $700 at the very cheapest vendors. Why you would ever want that much oomph in a carpc I will never understand.

lol, thanks for the info man, I expected someone to respond like that....

If you've ever looked into real time signal processing software suites, you'd understand. Only now are commercially available CPU's getting powerful enough to process 10+ channels of audio and do crossover, time alignment, phase correction, DRC, etc. in real time. I'm talking about having to run about 20-30 small apps simultaneously, each one sucking their little bit of CPU.

Once 64 bit apps and OS's are released along with dualcore or quadcore processor's, getting this task done won't be such an issue as it has been in the past!

These current prices are still outta my price range though!

I don't doubt there are apps that need the power, but... are you planning on doing all that in your car? Or is this going to be a show car where actual use isn't so much the question (I guess I would understand in that case. Sortof. )

car use? Yes. Show car? sort of, but generally, no.

This is more of a personal project that I'd like to do in the car, but then when it's done, the box could be moved to my HT setup.

My car will hopefully make it to some shows, but that's not really my priority. I definitely would like to hit some car audio SQ comps and see what I can do.

Heck, some plugins would allow me to do active noise cancellation in the car if there was a permanent mic input, lol

I just like goofing off with this stuff!

Alright, props to you. I admit I took you for a "I want a high end rig because I'm approaching this as a desktop machine" newbie that crop up on a fairly regular basis
