I'm not sure on this one, but I heard cops can see IR with there cameras in the car that record.
You might stick out more.![]()
if you are referring to a cheap one then you are right. I had night vision equipment that actually sensed the amount of light outside, and would adjust itself so it wouldn't burn out. if the light suddenly switched on, the equipment would automatically dim out so as not to destroy it.Originally Posted by DeltaFX

Got the Nitemax the other day. Pretty sweet. For the distance, you'll still need some supplementary IR illumination.
I'll post more details and some screen caps tonight or tomorrow. I better to that before I take it apart.
If I don't have problems with extending the board camera, the camera itself is going on the front of my rearview mirror and the lcd in the dash.
Just a follow up. I figured I'd post it in case others were interested.
The IR Ranger I bought is a NiteMax Ranger
Normally these go for $300 to $400 on ebay.
There was a guy on ebay selling a big lot of them for $20 each, missing only the lens and a batterypack or AC adapter to make it functional.
Sounded too good to be true.
Had datasheets for everything, the lcd, the lcd controller (though I'm not sure the lcd is actually color as the camera is bw), the sony superhad 1/3 CCD bw board camera. So I figured even if it didn't work it was worth 20 if one or two of the parts worked.
I got it and wow! Hooked up a CS-Mount lense I had around, and the picture is awesome. Camcorder quality. Much better then the lorex cameras I bought for my house and a fraction of the price. I'm going to use this in the car with those illuminators I posted about before for some improvised night vision. The IR is really bright too. I'd say you can see at least 100ft.
The only issue I had was that the Gain buttons don't work. Think one is shorted. The unit shuts off if you press them.
Didn't care as I don't need them. The picture is great. (Even after telling the seller that I don't care, he told me to keep it and is shipping me a replacement with the other three I ordered)
So he's down to about 26 left.
I posted the zip of the datasheets he sent me here.

So if anyone is interested, his listing is below. I'm not affiliated with him. Can't guarantee you'll have the same experience, only can relate mine.

That looks like a pretty big camera...Sounds interesting though.![]()
Didn't cadillac have a NV system in one of their cars? The camera was in the center of the grill in place of the cadillac emblem. IIRC the image was displayed against the windshield.
It's actually closer to 4x4. That's sitting on top of a PC in the pic, so that gives you an idea of scale. The lense is about an inch across.Originally Posted by Cris
Though I'm taking this one apart and getting rid of the housing so I should be able to make it pretty compact.
I remember seeing one, but not sure where it displayed the screen.Originally Posted by Silentbob343
We're getting around 1 1/2ft of snow today so I think I'll be stuck inside for the next day or so, maybe I'll start tearing this down.
