I have a compaq presario that has crappy built in sound. It sounds terrible. I was wondering if you guys could suggest a sound card to buy, and where to buy it. Here is what I would like out of it:
1--PCI format
2--preferably have a line level output. Not a headphone output. It would be nice to have a fixed line out that I dont have to adjust the volume in windows.
3--Inexpensive. I really dont need anything with digital in and out, so I dont want to spend over $30 or so.
4-Do they make cards with RCA outputs yet?
Thanks guys!

Project - GAME OVER :(
the only sound card ive seen with rca's is the sb awe 64 gold. but its isa![]()
"if everything is under control, you're not going fast enough!"
I'll just add my two cents. Although I use all creative cards in my machines at home (those that have soundcards atleast), they are evil incarnate. or aleast they've become that to me since i got the oem sb live! 5.1 for my mp3 player. Phillips makes a good cheap soundcard, i think its the rythmic edge that can be had for about $30 (maybe its the acousitic edge). and without being expensive or old, a soundcard wont have rca most likely (none that I know of).
And why do i think that creative labs is infact the devil? The oem card only came with drivers for xp, so i thought "whats the big deal, ill just download them off the web." But they aren't, anywhere, in any country, or on anyone elses site. So then I was like "I'll just call them." But I couldnt, not without running the registration software that came with my cd, which is why i wanted to call them (infinite loop goodness). So then I was like "God damn hippies, Ill just go buy a retail card." And I did, and the !@# installation cd wouldn't install the DRIVERS ONLY on winME, i dont even use (or like) all their fancy cpu eating software. So before setting fire to the cards and throwing them out of my moving car, I returned them and formated my machine and installed Win98.</rant>
