    Just got a SB Extigy

    A little background.

    I have an ARM PC (mini book PC) that has built in audio. Really, really crappy built in audio. I have it connected to the input of a Nakamichi MB75 indash 6-disc player. Love the PC but was so dissapointed that I never used it to listen to MP3s, just GPS mostly.

    Just went and bought a SB Extigy and hooked it up. WOW! MP3s sound like CDs (well they it sounds like CDs that were burned from MP3s at least). Huge improvement, I'm talking cassette vs CDs here.

    The Extigy runs off of 12V (1A) so I bought a little plug and plan to run it off of DC in the car. I think I'm going to hook up a regulator so that I'm not feeding it 14V, but it probably doesn't matter.

    Oh yah, this thing also decodes Dolby Digital and can apparently do some fancy things to make it sound good over 2 speakers. I'll give that a shot later and see how it sounds.

    I'll also post some pics of it installed so you can get an idea for size. Also, I paid $150 at Compusa, it can be found online cheaper though.

    whats the difference in extigy/audigy? besides usb/pci, external/internal?

    I think they are basically the same except for pci vs usb.

    the audigy (just the card) is like 85. the audigy with the fancy breakout box (live drive) is like 160.
