    slim dvd rom

    ok, i am looking for options for putting a slim dvd drive inside my glove box (fits perfect in the wrx) but anyway i have looked at the options out there I found out you cant really run a IDE cable as long as i need (more then 10 feet) then i also saw the adapter out there for converting ide>usb, but then you have to power not only the dvd rom, but the adapter as well. then i wondering about just skipping the whole IDE drive thing and going straight to usb, went to my local best buy and found this. Just wondering if you guys have heard anything about this product and if you think it will skip a lot while driving.

    You'll have to power that as well.
    The problem is that a single USB port doesn't provide enough power for an optical drive. That holds true whether you're usiing an enclosure or the bare adapter.

    yea, but i figured i would just wire that into a molex plug and that i can run as long as i want, i just want to eliminate running two power cables to the same spot. i really want the laptop style, becuase i can get it cheaper, and the cd/dvd will snap into the drive and be more secure

    You could wire up the IDE-USB adapter to a molex as well.
    The logic applies to both ways of accomplishing the same thing....

    i guess your right, could i just run 1 power supply up there and use a molex y adapter? that should work right?
