i dont think u'll be able to get the touchscreen working a pc with that screen... im think it interfaces with navi units and thats about all the touchscreen will be good for...
ok here is my plan. Ive already got a pioneer navigation system AVIC-d2 and i plan on adding a carputer strictly for my music library. However i am going to have to use another screen because it is not possible to view the music and the navi on the same screen. I have a pioneer touchscreen (AVD-W6210 6.5" Detachable Touch Panel Widescreen LCD Color Display) that works great but i want to know if it possible to get the touchscreen to work with the computer for the music, and if so, what software, etc will i have to get. I wish there was an easier way of doing this without having 2 screens but im not reday to convert fully over to the carputer yet. All ideas would be great thanks.

first of all, you can run a car computer without a vga touchscreen. you can use a standard lcd monitor and a keyboard/mouse. The picture quality will probably be lesser, and without the touchscreen it's not as user friendly, but definitely possible.
the main reasons requiring picture quality are video playback and gps. those are the features currently on your headunit. who dont you build a carputer and output a composite video and audio into the headunit. then use a gyration mouse and keyboard to control the mp3's. in the meantime, nothing affects your headunit. if you choose, you can continue the carputer work with gps, phone integration, internet, video playback, xm/sirius, etc while keeping your current setup. when it's satisfactory, you can change to a vga touchscreen and sell your current headunit.
when u say nothing affects the headunit, what do u mean. my main goal is to be able to view both at the same time. I dont want to have to switch views on the nvai screen everytime i want to change an album or something. But on the other hand, doing it that way would be a little less work and i wouldnt get harrassed from the cops for having 2 screens on upfont while im driving Is there anything smaller than a screen, such as a display os something just to be able to see the music from the pc ? Im just brainstorming here so all suggestions are welcome thanks
maybe you don't understand. most of the carputer front ends dont allow viewing navigation AND music selection at the same time. now you want both of these features on a less conformable screen. if somehow you could get the touchscreen to work with the carputer you don't yet have (very unlikely), then you'd still have to toggle between screens. anyway, your screen is only 6.5 inches, while the standard carputer screen is 7 inches. would you even be able to see it split screen?Originally Posted by nightcat
it seems like you have 4 options if you MUST see both at the same time.
1) get a second screen. why is one screen legal, but two screens aren't illegal?
2) install a big touchscreen monitor. even though it's worse than 2 monitors, maybe you'll like the idea.
3) get an ipod, hook it up via rca cables to the head unit, velcro it to the dash.
4) sell your head unit. with all of the money it cost you, you can build a complete carputer and still buy a tomtom. suction cup the tomtom to your window.
