    hardrives

    hi well this is my first post and i had searched this forum for protable harddrives and didnt find much so i decided to ask you guys. if i wanted a good harddrive for a carputer but one that i can remove when ever i get out of the car or whatever what would you suggest?

    the main problem is powering the hard drive. a 3.5in drive requires a dedicated line for power.

    I have not done this, but this is probably your best solution
    External 2.5" (laptop) Hardrive USB 2.0 case, $8.99 SHIPPED @ PCmicrostore!
    then add a laptop hard drive
    this allows for the drive to be bus powered, only one usb cable.

    so you couldnt use like a portable drive in a car with out some work huh?

    I would suggext not making the portable your only/boot hard drive. but they make cheap USB powered USB 2.0 enclosures for 2.5" drives

    it's be cheaper to make your own. i'm pretty sure you just put the 2.5 in drive into the enclosure, and xp recognizes the drive. i dont think there is any other work involved.

    That's exactly how they work. I bought an enclosure over the weekend for work purposes.
