    Angry CarPC randomly(?) reboots

You can see my system below.
I have the following problem-> The damn thing reboots just in the middle of windows. There is just a click (hard-off) and then it starts again. This happens totally random and when I drive over potholes. First I thought it was the hdd (cannot handle the shock), but then only windows would reboot and not the maiboard bios. (Correct?)
Maybe the m1-atx is bad and gives the system hardoffs?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Check, check, and check again all possible points of failure for the power supply. Sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere.

Otherwise, is it being cooled properly? Or are you pulling too much power on one of the rails?

Well loose connection, checked every f**king wire to the pc with a multimeter and looked if it was possible loose.

Cooled - have a case fan, besides that it is really cold right now and the carputer is in the trunk. This happens in warm and cold climates.

Too much power- I would say no, 1 hdd, 1 usb for touch screen , have an extra psu for the monitor.

bcn, are you having a similar problem? something like this is although common is extremely specific from car to car due to hardware, installation expertise (or lack thereof) climate, road conditions yada yada yada. You might post if you have a similar issue w/ your setup to get better results.

Though, the solution, or process for a solution is always the same.

Make sure that the PS can supply enough power to power the CARPUTER. THIS IS A BIG DEAL. I am NOT talking about total power, I am talking about each individual power rail. This is the BIGEST issue with reboots. Read thesehttp://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=106 and FAQ: Power Supplies Explained (Part 1)

Check all connections from the carupter to the ground and power wires. Make sure your wires are the proper thickness (read http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=76241) Make sure they are solid, not loose, and not moving. Reaplace/improve all bad connections.

Check that you have proper voltage during the entire boot process. If not, then there is a problem with the cars electrical system that must be checked.

Make sure nothing is being mistakenly grounded on the MB or PS. Make sure nothing is making contact with the metal case of the carputer.

Bring the carputer inside and test the MB with a desktop power supply. You can try this both still using your carputers DC-DC PS (like here FAQ: How do I power my DC-DC PSU on my workbench?) or by actually using a Desktop PS and connecting it directly to the ATX connector on your carputer MB.

Yep....similar problems. My CarPC works fine until I drive to any bumb. After the bumb pc reboots the whole system...bios and all. I have alredy checked the wires and connections. I have replaced my 3.5" hdd to 2.5" hdd and no good. I've tried vertical and horizontal installation without success. I have isolated the hdd and tried to make reduce amount of shock what it takes. I'm running out of ideas.

Check that the MB is securely mounted, and not flexing, and also, that all connectors are properly seated and tight. Do you have any ISA/PCI or AGP cards in the system. Make sure they are securly installed, and CAN NOT MOVE AT ALL. Even a small wiggle can cause the computer to crash, and could cause it to reboot. Try removing those cards that you don't need (run on board devices if you must) and see if it still happens.

If it reboots because of bumps, SOMETHING IS LOOSE.

No pci/agp or any other cards installed in the system. There are no other devices than hdd, cd/dvd combo and memory.

This problem is starting to affect my mental state....lol

Could it be remote power cable?! If remote power cable stops giving power for 2 secs and starts again it reboots the pc right?
