    Slimline eject button relocation

Has anyone had any success relocating a slimline slot-load dvd drive eject button? I have not purchased one yet, I am assuming the button is soldered to 2 contacts on the board. My plan is to solder 2 wires to these contacts and add an external switch. The load opening in the dash will be just slightly larger than a dvd, so the built in switch is covered.

i have a slot loading drive out of an old imac. I soldered wires and a momentary push button for an eject button and it workd fine. On my drive the contacts are very small, so take your time when soldering and make sure you have a small tip for your iron. I used wire from an old 80 wire IDE cable. This wire works great for small things since the 80 wire IDEs are a very fine guage solid wire, not stranded.

Progress: Installation: 90% Dash fabrication: 80%

    Parts Needed: USB GPS

Thanks for the tip, how does the imac dvd-rom interface with your pc, is it just a standard slim-line connector?

yes, the connector is a standard slimline connector, but I believe it is rotated 180 degrees from what most drives have. The one i have was pulled straight from an imac and still had the adapter to standard ide attached. Other adatpers should work, but they may stick out to the side a bit. For a while the imac drives were the only slimline slot loading drives you could get. There are lots of threads about them.
