    Question Gray Scale VGA Screen?

    Found this on ebay...

I'm wondering if its worth it. Costs less then a standard 4" setup, has a clearer picture, but I don't know if I could stomach gary scale. Opinions?

I wonder if it's worth buying just for the controler card? Those cards go for $200 or so. If you can find out what other LCD's that card will drive then upgrading later to a color screen would be cake!

    found this on another page:

The Cirrus Logic 6200 series LCD controller card has 512K RAM, non expandable. Some missing components on the baord are the HD DB15 connector and filter caps for it's connection and a berg strip for a TFT display. The connector for mono and passive displays are there as well as a dipswitch to select the display type. Since this is being supplied with the mono display,. we have no idea if any others will work with it as we have not tried any others, but you are welcome to tinker wtih it.

Gray scale in a car would still be cool. Only reason to stick w/color would be for the 'pimp' factor or if you plan on running DVD.

    My $.02

Thanks for the input. I'm a little scared of the "missing components" part because I don't want to get a lemon, but the price is right!

I was planning on getting the standard 4" for now (guesstimating about $150 with card and shipping) because I'm a poor college student. I could get a laptop lcd later with one of earth tech's kits for movies or typing papers etc. Or maybe the gray scale would work.

The 4" would be good for the basics, like winamp, and I figure if I only needed the one, I could sell the 4" easier than a vga.

How are the 4" displays for DVDs? If I get a hardware decoder with a tv-out, would it have a clearer picture?

I don't mean to argue, but I don't to get stuck with something and regret it. Thanks to all!
