I'm not sure if anybody SELLS them the length your looking for, but you can probably go to any electronics (not radio shack!) store and buy ribbon cables and the ends.. they just snap together... Have you thought of the possibliity of using USB?

if its 1.1, its too slow to be practical.
usb 1.1 transfer speeds: 12 Mbps
usb 2.0 transfer speeds: 480 Mbps
    Big difference.

You would need to add some way for the mobo to use USB 2.0 if you want to use a drive on the usb port (with good speeds.) It WILL work on usb 1.1 but it will be too slow. What mobo are you using?

Just about any PCI usb 2.0 add on card would do (granted you have an open PCI slot). They are all standard. but then if you want to convert the IDE drive to USB you would need something like this: http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...roducts_id=149

The maximim length for an IDE cable according to the official specification is 18 inches. 2-foot cables (24 inches) are pretty common.
There are places that will sell or make you a longer cable, but I wouldn't expect spectacular results, if it even works.

One guy on here posted a link to a place that will make cables as long as you need/want, but will only guarantee them up to four feet (48 inches) long.

long ide cable like long johnson- everyone wants one until after they get it and it doesnt work right anymore. I have addressed this issue by going usb to ide cable and a pci usb 2.0 card.
