    Software to test hardware ?

    Hi
I am looking for some software that can run detailed tests on hardware, I had one years ago that would copy data from hdd to ram and test for errors and speed and also put the processor to work at certain thresholds / loads to check for errors etc, but I dont have this anymore.

I have certain unexplainable resets on my pc and think its psu but it could be ram / processor / overheating of components.

If you have a link for something along these lines please let me know

Eh, there's really no substitute for experience and knowledge, but look for an ISO image of Hiren's boot cd. This has all kinds of tools in it to test hardware with. As far as overheating goes, is anything too hot to touch? If so, you got heat problems.

But, Hiren's boot cd is awesome, and there are torrents for it all over. I think the current version right now is 7.9 Here's a link to what it contains. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hiren.thanki/bootcd.html

Also, there's a program to check if your processor is running stable under heavy load. http://users.bigpond.net.au/cpuburn/ - Note, this is a windows prog

To watch the temp, you can use this prog http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
It has to support your chipset/motherboard, but it's list is getting bigger every day.

I've used both of these progs to burn in gaming systems I've built. Work great for me.

I think memtest86 http://www.memtest86.com/ definately checks the RAM very well. It takes a while and you have to boot off of it, but it gets the job done... slowly. Very robust software though. And it is free!

    thanks for the help guys
isolated the problem to an overheating processor
ditched the intel heatsink and put an aftermarket one on and all seems well
