    Arrow XBOX Modding

I have a modded XBOX and love it. If you guys need help modding one or want to know about it, check out http://www.xboxscene.com

Any Ways, I am trying to install the xbox in my car and there really isnt a convienent place to install it. I have found a few options, like taking it appart and scattering parts of it across the car. Not too much though, just the power buttons and the dvd drive so that I can turn it on and change disks from the drivers seat.

Anyone know if the xbox will fit into mp3car.som's Stealth case for carputers?

Or has anyone ever messed with custom xbox cases so that I know if I can even do this.

    Thanks
    Mark

How are you moving the DVD drive?
It is connected by IDE cable which when used with a very long ide cable doesn't really work well.
Are you using a USB DVD?
What modchip and dashboard (the basic OS on an xbox) and what Software?

I'm workin on a way to work this out right now as well. Need to stay with the stock drive (still want to be able to play games) but am also looking to run linux. I have been searching and have found some decent looking 36inch ide cables (round ones too for ease of routing thru the dash).

I am looking to locate the drive, power/eject, and 2 controler ports in the upper center console/lower dash in my car. There is some unused space and a lil bondo and fiberglass should make it look nice and clean. Figured I will probably mount the rest of the box where the passenger side air bag would be. Right now I am in the thought and development stage of this.

Things I am still looking for..... female to female or even female to male (if long enough IDE). This way I could have a female IDE connection at the back of the box and plug in the 36inch cable which should get me the ide connection to where I need it. The other issue I am concerned with right now is a power supply cable extention (I am figuring if everything else works out I can always take one of the 6 inch extenders cut it and solder in some extra wire (it's only 4 wires and they are of decent gauge for cutting and soldering).

As far as the above post about loosing speed..... most of the cable extensions I have found are of higher quality (data rates) than what the xbox come with from the factory. So I am hoping that would make up for any problems, also the factory cable is 24 inches.... so adding a 36 inch cable shouldn't cause much loss. This is all theory and we would have to see what happens when it's all hooked up. My bigger worry is about interferance, being that IDE cables weren't meant for external use in general. And every length of IDE cable I have found has at least 2 connections on it (so some inulation with a ton of electrical tape would be needed at that point at least).

    Ideas, thoughts???

incase you didnt know you can run a bios the doesnt need the DVD attached. I was playing with one I was given but the dvd drive was faulty, so I used mine to get it flashed up, then I altered the bios so it didnt need the dvdrom and also loaded mediacenter on it, which I used for a good few months to stream movies off my machine so I could watch em on tele.. I stuck a little 20 gig laptop harddrive in it which worked great ! If you need a hand let me know

yeah from what I understood from the original poster..... he is looking for the same setup I am. Stealthy with access to the DVD rom for being able to put a disc in when needed for gaming (or in my case also movie watching).

Not to mention how cool would it look to have a xbox dvd-rom, power n eject buttons, and 2 controller ports custom molded into your center console.

Yep, you guys nailed it. I am going to extend the power cables for the dvd and the power/eject and not even worry about the controller ports, just get RF controllers.

My best shot to make it fit and still have the stealth install is to disassemble the xbox and hit the different pieces in the car. Do you guys think this is actually going to work? The hard drive uses regular PC IDE and power cables, but the DVD uses a different power cable setup. I wonder if the MP3 car store auto bootup and shutdown could possibly interface?

BTW The xbox stats are... Xecuter 2.3 Lite with Evo X dashboard, XBMC and 40 gig hd.

FYI, there is a car power supply made specifically for the xbox console.
    http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Mods/12V%20Mini%20Xbox.htm
As an Xbox Media Center machine it is possible to configure a console so that when it is turned on it boots and automatically plays a random play list. With our hardware setup the power supply turns on the console automatically 3 seconds after the accessory is enabled (enough time to crank the engine) but it is sort of a belt and suspenders situation since the power supply also can handle 7-24 volt input!. It also powers down the Xbox via the power button 5 seconds after the ignition is shut off (this gives you ample time to set accessory mode with the key if you wish to keep the console running with the engine off) If you leave it on in accessory mode and somehow loose track of time and find the battery is draining fear not, it will shut itself off when the battery drops to 10.4 volts this will leave you with enough juice to start the vehicle.

We have the power supply available for $149.00 this is plug in ready for a 1.2-1.5 motherboard and includes a pre modified power switch PCB so you can just swap them out and plug them in.

nice setup for the power supply, right now I am thinking of hard wiring in an inverter though.... want to add an extra plug and aux input just incase I need to throw the lap top or something else in the car.

NCG35..... I've got some ideas, personally I am gonna try and keep the xbox together and hide the box. Don't wanna run extremely long IDE cables, but I've got a few ideas. I personally would try and do something with the original case or a slim case with everthing but the dvd-rom in place (less things to break or have interference than if you have stuff everywhere).

Not sure if it will help, but these guys did exactly what you're wanting to in a C5 Corvette... http://caraudiomag.com/features/0305cae_arc/

    Hope it helps
