Thread: Using a palm os device as controller

You can use the IR port of the palm(I dont remember if the palm III has IR) if your computer has IRDA. Also there is another program called busker that can be used to controll winamp from a palm. It doesn't have nearly as many features but the buttons are bigger if you want to use your fingers instead of the stylus.

Can I use my Compaq AERO palm PC do do the same thing?

You could use your ir, mine goes approx 6 feet. Here's what you'll need: 1st create shortcuts for your playlists and assign them to shortcuts on your desktop. 2nd get an ir reciever ( i used my keyboard reciever ) Use a palm program called OmniRemote, then "create" your own custom button pad ( mine is playlists & MP3 Player ) then put your palm in training mode, point keyboard at Palm ir port ( approx 1 " distance ) and select hotkeys to your playlist dir shortcuts .SEE ATTACHED PIC.
*i assign my playlists and command controls to the function keys F2 -> F12 excect play=x, stop=v, Next song=b, etc.....

Now when your in your car have PalmAmp running and sitting in the cradle/cable, and when you want to go wireless just switch over to OmniRemote and use ir to control your music. Create button pads that link together in OmniRemote ie: winamp buttons stop, play, ff, rw, pause etc... then map the touchscreen buttons to the four hard buttons on the handheld. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE SONGS but you can control your music from standing outside your car. To see the songs just simply put back into cradle/cable and switch back to PalmAmp.

lol, sorry bout that. I just "scanned" the whole palm then cropped it, my digital camera would kinda sucks, maybe i'll use one of those screen shot hack's for the palm on Wednesday and repost some other pics.

thats a good idea to use the keyboard receiver but what i wanted to do was avoid infrared so that i could by out of the car and still controll it with palmamp. the solution would be to find somesort of wireless serial transiver DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY ?

The only thing i can think of would be "Bluetooth"
"http://www.palm.com/wireless/bluetooth/ " But since you have a older Palm III you cannot use the bluetooth card, it's Compatible with:Palm i705, m515, m505, m500, m130 and m125 handhelds.
Plus your car carputer would have to have a Bluetooth reciever.
