Compusa External 3.5" USB. 12v only?

    Hi Everyone,
I just bought an external usb enclosure from compusa. The ac adaptor that comes with it says "Swithcing adaptor". Output 12v. Anyone delt w/ this? Can I just cut the cord on connect to a regulated 12v? I'm having trouble finding the gnd w/ a mm on the cable. The cord has the temp. etc. writing on one of the 2 cables on the cord (would that be +?).
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jeff

Yes, use a regulated power source and you should be fine... check the polarity... then check again
