Question Where can I buy pins and jumper leads from?

I was on Radio Shack looking for pins to hook up my LCD and also for jumper leads to hook up some LEDs and the power and reset switches.

I have a old motherboard that I can unsolder these type of pins from - These you can buy at Radio Shack.

Where can I buy the jumper leads that connect to them? What is the proper name for them?

    Thanks.

are u looking for the pins that you have in the picture?

i know them as "pin headers"

you can find them at most electronics shops. usually .1 spacing, straught, right angle, 2x configurations. many options to choose from.

i found them right away at www.jdr.com but they screw you on shipping and handling.... big time!!! look around at local shops, rat shack probably has 'em.

if you are looking for hte little 2-pin connectors, they are just "jumpers", but i dont think that is what you were getting at.

    edit,
now that i read again, i think you are talking about the wired connectors that you plug into the pins... please clear it up for me, i can help out a little more!!

    I allready have the pins.

I need the wires with little heads on them to fit the pins.
Better yet, find one's that are similiar to the one's on our ACG-1024 TFT controller for the Hirose connections, pins that you can pop out and then rearange..

    Like LED's for your computer.

I can take a old PC case and use the switches wires etc...but I don't have any old cases lying around.

i love hunting on the net!!!!

idc connectors, i thought if rat shack had the headers, why wouldnt they have the connectors too. go to www.radioshack.com and search for "idc". on the 3rd or 4th page, there are a slew of them with different numbers of connections. multiple spacing available too.

    enjoy

well, im not making the same thing as leslie, but i have constructed my vga cable for the allenruble controller using twisted pair networking cable. as soon as i have the rest of the parts, i will see what my results are.

flat cable should be ok as long as you can get something to shield it, and as long as the run length isnt too long. but then again there is the 15' IDE cable proving everyone wrong

This is not for my SVGA cable, I bought a SVGA cable 25 foot on eBay.

This is actually for my Crystal Fontz 20 x 4 LCD that I'm going to mount in my dash for system info and winamp songs etc..

The problem is that If I solder my 25 foot parrallel cable to it then it may be hard to install it since the LCD is so large and it won't fit into my designated spot without some kind of quickrelease system.

Also I need the little jumper wires for my power button and reset button. I wish I had a old case lying around that I didn't need so I could just gut it.

I am talking about pins and jumpers that your motherboard and case have, the ones the power and reset and LED's are hooked up too.

i know what you were talking about, i was just telling you what i did for my cables... jsut to give you an idea on what to use for wires

    okay...
get the 2-pin connectors, with or without the locking capability for the power and led cables. you can run those with bulk wire since there is no need for shielding, or use twisted pair for a cleaner and easier-to-install cable.

for the display. i would recommend that you get an 8x2 pin header and an 8x2 idc connector. you can use a 16 conductor flat ribbon cable for the idc connector, or use twisted pair like i did. the twisted pair is a little cranky when you try to put it in the idc connectors (designed for flat ribbon cable), you are trying to secure 16 individual strands at the same time.

anyway, i will look at digikey over my lunch break and find some suitable components. i brought my catalog with me to work, so i will tell you what i would buy if i were you.
