It's possible. I think most newer USB drives will show up the same as thumbdrives, but I can't find anything in particular that says it won't work..
Ok, put aside your bias towards carputers for a second here. Haha..
I was looking at the Clarion "NICE" unit the other day, and this unit has a couple of USB plugs for "pen drives" so you can upload/play MP3's. Does anyone know if it would work having an externally powered hard drive hooked up to it? Obviously I could easily power my external 250gb HDD in the car, and I'd like to hook it up to the Clarion NICE unit. I'm just curious if the NICE unit would recognize it and use that HDD "in place of" the 10gb one within the unit.
Any ideas?

You need to search.
It's been tried. They aren't detected, so no it doesn't work.
And USB hard drives are not detected as a flash memory drive. I have a USB HDD and that's not how it's picked up.
