    Slimline dvd to... usb?

    Hi all,

I purchased a Pioneer Slot Load DVR-K05 (slimline laptop dvdrom) with the intent of mounting it in my dash and connecting it to my pc which is basically under my drivers seat. (3' away or so).

I have seen (and purchased) the slimline -> IDE adapter that allows me to put it on my ide chain, however finding a 3' ide cable + power is not a good or even viable answer. Along those lines I also saw and purchased an IDE -> USB adapter, however this is also a large adapter making the slimline dvdr not so slimline. Oh, and it doesn't work when I try to connect it that way (too many conversions?).

Does anyone have any hardware suggestions for what I am trying to do? Preferably, I'd love to use the existing dvdr that I already spent $100 on, but if that isn't possible, I can accept that.

Thanks as always, you all rule!

did you connect the ide>usb adapter and also give it power? it doesn't carry its own power through the adapter so you'll have to get the 5v from your psu

Here's another. I just got this one and am using it via firewire. No extra power wire needed. It works with USB as well but you must give it 5V separate.
