Silverstone DAC

Anyone using the Silverstone DAC? Does it require it's own USB port, or can you use it with a hub? Does it have any suspend/hibernate issues? Does it consume a lot of processing power?

I tried a Sounblaster Live! 24-bit USB and it would not let me hibernate. I then switched to a Turtle Beach Roadie and it does not sound very good.

oh you have good timing. I spend quite a bit of time on the phone with these morons today, and I couldnt even get them to explain their own product to me. The guy who was supposed to be techinal support couldnt barely speak english, and what he did say made no coherient sense. All I asked him was "what is the output voltage of the headphone jack, and has this been used in a car audio enviroment before?" ..... his reply : "Yes, the EB01 connects to a computer"

.....then I asked "ok, thats nice .... is there anyone who can help me in your company? "..... then he said " no they are all in Tawian".......so I was....

So, I called back and talked to Cristina, who was nice when I told her that the tech service guy was a complete ****ing moron, and if there was anyone else who can help me. She said that no, that was the only guy and that they had no sales staff that was knowledgeable about the product, and that I should email some guy in the company and hope in a few days I get a mail back.......so BOOOOO Silverstone, no sale for you.

Yep, they are based directly out of Taiwan. They have an office in LA but it is strictly for distribution. I'm hoping someone on this forum can tell me they've used it and that it works without any booting/crashing annoyances.

That's usually how it goes. In a mass-production company, it doesn't make any sense for anyone who actually knows how a product works to sit and answer phones all day for minimum wage. They can have a better paying job, and no company is going to pay their phone reps the same wages as an engineer.

Just remember not to blame the nice foreign man on the phone because he is a tool. He's just doing his job.

I just received the DAC. It sounds great. It uses default "USB Speaker" drivers in windows, which is also a plus. The unit automatically eliminates the pop you normally would hear at boot.. no relays necessary. It does require it's own USB port (no hubs) I'll try it in the car this weekend and let everyone know how it handles alternator noise.

Its great, notting like it. Just plug the USb in and it works. NO driver needed or anything. Sounds great too.

they compare it to the 'microdac' which i have personally listened to on a really nice set of senhiezer headphones while having it connected to the head-fi headphone amp. all i can say is HOLY CRAP! I have never heard music sound like i did with that set up. now that this silverstone dac can even compare (although it's not as good) says a lot for this $100 wonder.
