I recently purchased an in-car power supply for my laptop. What a waste.

All was well. I decided to try it first on an older laptop I had (Mitac 6033) and all went well. I unplugged it and proceeded to connect it to the Acer travelmate.

KABOOM

My laptop burnt out. I later discovered that the adaptor as supplied with the power supply was faulty. the polarity was somehow reversed and messed up my laptop. Now Im stuck with a burnt laptop that I cant use...
I tried switching the HDDs around, but I have a problem: The Mitac wont run XP as it doesnt support ACPI. Everytime I try to boot, it starts XP and quits to BSOD, telling me to either upgrade the bios or disable power management in text mode setup. How would I do this? Any ideas?
