    Silent hard drive?

I just bought a 20GB hard drive for the laptop I'm using for my setup. I installed it and it works wonderfully, but I'm somewhat concerned for it. You see, it makes absolutely no noise whatsoever. When it boots up, silent. When copying files to it, silent. When recompiling the kernel, silent. Is this normal?

Yes, laptop harddrives are normally VERY quiet.

If it works, what's your concern? I highly doubt it's a magic drive lol.
Xerxes is right. Laptop drives are compact, lightweight, quiet, and rugged.

it would be weird, but cool to have a silent hard drive. i know that some company just came out with a totally silent hard drive (not laptop). neat idea, but it would take me a while to get used to.

You could also use a EEPROM device, they're silent. But cost way too much for use as a HD. I can't hear my HD in my car though. I've gotten used to it and now the HDs in my desktops drive me nuts!! lol

Who wants to pay extra for a silent harddrive, anyway? Just toss a couple extra fans in your system and you'll never hear it again!
