    Pic problems

I think I toasted the programmer, or the com port.......

I cant get anything to use com1, except winpic, which say programmer found and at the zif socket I seem to get all the right voltages. (well led's shoved into pins mclr rb6 and rb7 etc light up in the right sequence)

My mb only has a com1

hyperterminal + mscomm in vb says com port in use even after a re-boot

I tried a usb/com dongle that come online as com3 but wont open as I get the same in use msg as with com1

The emulated com3 wont work with the programmer

My old serial mouse (been retired about 3 years) wont work in com1 or com3

So, after a morning of hitting head against pic<>usb code, I get thanked by a rogue com port issue, lifes not fair! I want a refund!

... some PLC software would not "let go" of the com port.. so you would have to figure out what service or process still has control of your com port. once you kill that process then other apps can use the com port etc.

For school to program pics we used a program called IC-prog. Under windows XP we had to install a special driver to let us access the com port so maybe u need some sort of drivers

not always... i know Allen bradley (PLC) RSLogix software will control the port even if you reboot... found out when i had to work on a Siemens PLC and the software wouldnt work .... port only worked with RSLogix ... i found the process that was running when RSLogix took control .. killed it and the used the Siemens software... etc.
