    help with slimline cd

ive got a few slimline cdroms and got an adapter form another member here but it seems not not be working

the cd rom drives will spool up and spin the cd but none of the computers that i put it on will work it --- i dont know if windows will or should see it -- it dosent

the adapter i have is the same one that most everyone has -- floppy power connector 4 pins (for the standard audio out) and another set of 4 pins encased in a white connector (digital audio??) the other side is the (jae??) connector to connect to the cd rom drive

now the drives i have are from 97/98 one is a toshiba the other is a torsien brand 12x and 14.5x -- maby these are to old i dont know

any thoughts from anyone --- if they are at there limit then ill shoot over to the selling forum and post a want to by

    thanks

do you have anything else you can plug the drive into directly and test it?

into a laptop with a removable slim drive with the same types of connections?

are you absolutely sure that the drives are good?

I had an instance where no matter what I did, the drive just wouldn't work, it would spin up, light would come on, it would read, then it would die, I tried EVERYTHING...and nothing worked...except for getting a new drive.

If you think the drive is good, I might be able to dig up my old thread. It might help you with some troubleshooting ideas.

I had some issues with my slim-drive and adapter too
    some suggestions:
    - try to rotate cable connected to adapter
    - try to use old ATA33 cable
    - in bios use choice "auto" for drive detection

(my bios don't want to find DVD-drive anyway but windows does and working fine
