at the end after all is said and done..

tv reception on a WINTV Usb is crap. FM is fine, but if you drive an older model of BMW pre 2002, the antenna is powered from the original HU, that means you gotta run 12v to power the damn thing.

WHICH CAUSES GROUNDLOOP TO YOUR LINE IN---

and because the win tv uses a 2.5mm jack, you need to have a coupla converters to RCA to go through a ground loop isolator, which goes back to 2.5mm before line in.

    Sigh.

andalogue tv and original BMW antenna doesnt work.....

    however DIGITAL is awesome....
the only problem with that is that the winamp plugin for digitial is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOW.

    just another couple quick notes:

the radio / head unit end of the fm antenna wire may accept a bnc connector but the proper connector that fits 100% is a PAL connector. If you check radio shack or the source CC they have a euro tv cable adapter. It goes from PAL to F type (which is the input required for wintv usb fm.)

The reason the tv reception is crap is you need a different type of antenna to tune TV signals (mainly those ugly bunny ear type antennas). I believe the reason is that TV has a much wider frequency range. You would also have to end up mounting these antennas on your car roof to get good reception, which I think is ugggglyyyyy.

I had to do the antenna mod you spoke of, its easy to do, don't try to power it from your opus or anything, just take the white / purple wire from your stock radio wiring harness in the car and feed it into the solid white wire which is the antenna. I also believe these pins are pin 5 (ACC 12v+) to pin 16 (antenna) don't quote me on that make sure you check. The best way to do this is to just buy an aftermarket wiring harness for a head unit and connect the blue and red wire (again verify colours and pin numbers with a multi-meter.)

You are also correct about the ground loop, PITA, but the ground loop isolator does fix the problem.

The original BMW antenna delivering FM works at 100% RF reception for me.
As for a digital not sure what you mean by that.

    Thanks for posting your experiences.
