Jol,
there must be some kind of contacts (a wire with a connector hanging maybe) at the other end of the lever that would plug somewhere in the wheel column, if your car had the cruise control feature.
Use a multimeter to find out if and which of these contacts short (close circuit) when you press the button or move the switch. If it is simple like that you could use this lever instead of custom buttons, by rewiring them to an old keyboard controler.
