    Question Black Silicon on Automotive Goop?

    OK I have a major problem. I glued my tft into the dash spot using hot glue gun. Today in NY it got to a blistering high of like 90 something.
    Great day to test CPU overheating and HD overheating. No overheating. But my screen started to push back, so when I got home I took it all off and noticed the hot glue didn't stick well at all.
    Should I go and try Automotive goop or Black Silicon?

    Use hardware to mount your screen - ie screws/bolts. You won't have to worry about heat making your stuff come unstuck and you'll be able to remove it later. If you can't use screws/bolts directly, make a bracket out of sheet metal that fits behind it and can detach via level or friction lock (like how head-units fit inside the dash)

    But, with bolts are stuff, you may get some quite bad vibrations that could do damage to the screen, especially is the bolts started to come loose...

    I always use split washers on any nut-bolt that will be under vibration...... thats what they are there for....

    Automotive Goop should deal with it pretty well. It's silicon based, instead of rubber based like hot glue...Just make sure to clean the dash REALLY well before you attempt to glue.

    I just bought a $5.00 tube of GE Silicon II for roofs.
    It's black in color and can stand up to 205C. It also stays flexible and has great adhesion.
    The original reason I wanted to use a hot glue gun is that the glue does not permently bond the surfaces together so you can carefully pull it apart.
    I globed alot inside the edges and cornors of the screen. I used black so no light could shine through.

    If the temperature is ever going to be above 80 degrees in your car or something will be directly hit by the sun.....NEVER USE HOT GLUE! Hot Glue is heat activated. When you put it on...it is hot...then it cools and sticks...the next time it gets real hot or sunlight beats down on that spot...the hot glue will heat up and not "stick".

    For sticking things to pieces in cars...we used to make a solution that contained bondo, silicone, and some good ol carpenter's glue. I don't remember how much of each. But that stuff sure would hold!!
