JVC kdsh99 vs kdsh707 vs kdsh909??
I have been reviewing the kd sh99 for a while now and when JVC came out with the 2002 Digifine 2.2 line, I figured I would wait until the prices came down enough to buy the new line. From what I can tell the sh707 is what I need, but I am not sure if its exactly what I want yet. What does the 909 have that the 707 doesnt?
1. mp3 compatible ? yes
2. 4 volt outputs (this is supposed to be better than most decks) ? NO. This one has 2volt outs, but the sub one is non fading dedicated.
3. subwoofer output? YES
4. XM compatible? I think so, but I dont care much for it yet. Perhaps in a few years
There is the JVC kd sh980 (http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=KDSX980) for 2002 but why is it so much cheaper? I dont think it has the sub outputs so I am going to stay away from that one

I just bought the sh99 mdl. Its pretty good for what i paid, apparently its being superceded here in Australia, Retail was $995 and paid $550cause it was the last in the store.
MP3 playback is as good as you would expect, it does all the song titling too. Has sub outs, and two AUX ins. One on the front panel, and L&R RCA's on the rear. It also has a fully motorised face plate.
The other units you pointed out are cheaper for a reason, they are built quite as sturdy as this one, and Im pretty sure they dont have the inputs and the sub outs.
I bought it!
Well, I have officially taken the plunge and went out and ordered the sh707 model from millionbuy.com. I am actually taking a bit of a gamble because it doesnt have the 4 volt outs and that tells me its not as full featured as the sh99. I dont care cause realistically it doesnt need to be 4v when I am going to connect it to my US Acoustics amp.
My cousin is driving it over from US in a week and I will post more on it once I get time.
BTW, million buys charged me 250 total (including shipping) to get it Redmond Washington. They also ship to Canada if any fellow canadians are interested.
I got the kdsh707!
This deck is fantastic! I own a 95 Mustang convertible with the built in Ford amp for the speakers (I found that out because initially their was no sound from the speakers... that freaked me out until I hooked up the amp turn on wire).
Anyways I hooked up the deck yesterday. It was easy. All the colored wires matched up to the Ford wiring assembly. I used the power from the Ford wiring assembly. I dont need a dedicatd power wire (as with my amp) because the deck outputs to the ford amp so it doesnt go full power anyways. The JVC sleeve fit perfectly and the locks were easy to use as well.
extremely sharp and clear (especially in the hiphop eq mode). I was going to buy some tweets but I wont even bother because the sound is already what I want.
this deck has the sub outs which has drastically improved sound in my system. I have two 12" Crankenstiens in the trunk and a US Acoustics amp. With my previous Sony deck I just used the rear outs
I havent quite figured out the directory navigation but all files play back without difficulty, even on the no-name CDR I burned them to.
I dont care much for the multicolored buttons and face, but I really like the mini eq that is in the upper right corner of the display. The deck also has a dim option for night driving (it turns on with the headlights). The faceplate fits in easily thanks to JVC smarts - the tilting mechanism comes out an inch when it senses you are trying to insert the face plate. It does the same when you try to remove the face as well. The 3 tilt settings are nice to impress friends but I leave the face at its default fully inserted position because of my driving angle
settings and options
There are over 15 different options you can set on the deck. The options are accessible by holding in the 'sel' button. The navigation is easy and changing the options are straight forward. The deck also has options to turn off the speaker output if you use the front and rear amp outputs instead (This saves on the deck amp and reduces heating up I guess)
If anyone has questions about this deck or want some pictures of it in action, let me know.
long term testing of kd sh707
Well, its been about 2 weeks now and I have not had a single problem with this deck at all. The only complaint I have is that the deck face is a bit finicky to get in. Getting it out is a snap - hit the eject button, and the motor slides the face out an inch so that you can grab the edges and slide it out. The face is very sturdy and has already been through a few rough drops and mishaps and it still works perfectly.
Good choice for anyone looking into an mp3 deck for their car.
long time owner ks sh707
Well, I have owned the kd sh707 for quite some time now. I havent experience any problems with this deck at all and I am very happy with its performance. I highly reccomend this deck to anyone!
