Quick Power question
I'm using a DC/AC 140 watt inverter to run my computer, but when running the computer through the cigarette lighter it won't run. The inverter runs other things just fine but I don't think the computer gets enough current. I'm thinking about wiring the inverter directly to the battery. Will this solve my problem, or are there other suggestions?

I couldn't get my PC to run from my cigarette lighter either when I first tried it. Even with a 300W inverter. I could be wrong, but I don't think the cigarette lighter can supply the power that a PC needs. Hardwiring it to the battery isn't a bad idea. It's what I did and I haven't had any problems.

What I did is I bought another Cigarette lighter connector and mounted it behind the glovebox and put my inverter in the glove box. The hot wire runs to a 25 amp fuse. It has held up so far. Have you tried running your puter on a different inverter? Running it to the battery would probably solve your problem but I wouldent like reaching over and manually turning off the inverter all the time. Im getting a DC-->DC Power supply from a friend soon anyway though.

ToMaC How are you using the 25 amp fuse to switch on and off. Are you running it through the fuse box and having it swith on with the ignition? Because I picked up an extra cigarette lighter yesterday and it seems to be working now, I would like it to turn on and off automatically now.

Yep, the fuse turns on/off with the ignition.
