    Question Stepping-up power supply?

Anyone know How I can make a power supply that steps up from the car battery? Kinda like a power supply for the Netpliance power, or for the miniPC (which takes 18V@3A)

Sure, you just need a step-up switching regulator circuit. Check the MAXIM website ( http://www.maxim-ic.com ). They have several ICs that should do the trick. Check the application notes section as well as the datasheets for some of their step-up switching regulator ICs -- these often have example circuits you can copy to make your life easier.

If you don't want to build your own, you may want to look into a DC-DC converter module or board. Check the surplus places like All Electronics ( http://www.allelectronics.com ) or MPJA ( http://www.mpja.com ).
