    Panasonic Slot-Load Problem

I just recently installed my slot load cuz i was too lazy to hook up a 5v line to it since it would poer off a usb hub. But ther 1st couple days it worked fine but now when i put any type of cd in the carpc kinda freezes but i can ctrl + alt + del and end the process. THe pc will not read any cd / dvd anymore. ANy reason for this? Also if i try to eject the cd by pressing the button it wont eject .

I don't know if you have the same model I do, but 1.) I HAD to hook up 5V power AND the USB because if you check the power requirements on the drive it's up to 2 amps and you're usb hub typically only supplies that, so if you have other devices plugged in...good luck getting enough power. 2.) the eject button never worked. Mine even has the apple logo. These drives I believe are surplus from Mac Mini's and MM's don't have eject buttons on them if I recal. The hardware eject buton has been disabled and glued in so it could sit up flush in the mac. You have to use a software eject in either My Computer (right click the drive), or RoadRunner's built in eject, or if you PM me I can send you a standalone eject.exe that came w/ my drive.

mine did it before, I had to reinstall the drivers for the drive. If you check your device manager in the control panel to see if it working right.

Try this bit...I posted this response to another thread...it may help...it was the other problem I had with mine.
If you take the housing off of the drive you should see (if yours is set up like mine was) a converter board(s) that go from the cd-rom's ATA to USB. Now on mine there was one thin board that ran across most of the back of the CD drive and was held on to a second board (that contained some caps and the USB connector) by few small solder points and nothing else!. What I actually wound up doing to mine was bending very small sections of a paper clip (something sturdy not weak ones) at 90 degree angles and soldering them into the connections and then JB Welding the USB board to the CD-Rom drive so it wouldn't move. I found after inserting and removing the USB cable too many times those solder points broke.
Go give that a try and see if that fixes it.

Had the same issue, basically fixed it the same way, except I used some double stick foam tape, and put it between the board and the CD driver, and between the board and the plastic housing.
