    Computer worked, then stopped :(

My car computer has been working in my house for a couple of months now and I finally got a chance to make the console for it. After I put it in the only issuse was the IDE cable. I had to plug the grey(slave) connecter into the HD and the black(master) connecter into the DVD because of the length limit. A few guys on here said this was ok so I hooked it up like that and it worked! Everything was fine for about a half hour. I turned it on and off several times cutting the power to the power supply. This was all in my garage, I never went anywere not did I change anything. It suddenly would not boot. Instead of the normal beep at boot up there is a slightly longer beep that has a slight pause about 3/4 of the way through it. Followed by a lower tone beep about 4 seconds later and another even lower tone beep immediatly following. Here it is http://www.geocities.com/stevebang20...r_console.html
I have read all of the threads on booting and didn't find anything like this. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh yea. I tested voltages, everything is good. I dissconnected the IDE cable from the mobo and it makes the exact same sound. I also removed the DVD player and hooked the HD up to master to see if it would work and no go.
    Help...

unplug all your parts except for the CPU, RAM and vid card. Re-seat the RAM and video, then try booting. If you get POST, then try adding things back one at a time till failure.

If you're having length constraints with your IDE cable, try just hooking up your HD to IDE1 and your DVD to IDE2

Then if your mobo won't reboot after re-seating the ram, try using a different stick of ram. If still no-go, then you cooked your mobo or CPU.

Ok I dissconnected the USB, line out, mouse, IDE cable, and RAM chip. I resinstalled the ram and tried to boot. Same beeps no boot. I connected the IDE cable and tried to boot; same beeps not boot. I tried another 128 RAM chip with and without the IDE cable connected; same beeps no boot.

So all that's left (that could be toasted) is your mobo or your cpu. If you've got a spare of either, swap & try again. That will eliminate it down to 1 element (or potentially both could be cooked)

Real bummer though. Sorry to hear it.

Damn. Don't have either. Between the two, which do you think is more likely to be the problem?

I'm guessing it might be the CPU. If you've got -any- other socket 370 CPU, I'd reccomend you swap & try... Otherwise look for the cheapest celeron you can find and buy that as a tester.

If it were just a component on the motherboard, it -should- POST to that point and then fail. If it's the on-board video, then there's no point in trying to use a PCI vid card anyways. See if one of your friends will let you test your CPU in their computer. If it works, then it's the mobo (and you should be able to send it back to Shuttle for RMA/Warranty repair)

Thanks a lot. I might shoot over to Fry's and see if they have any cheap Celerons. Thanks bro...
