    Post Just starting out.

I am just starting on my road to mp3dom today. I have spent almost 24 straight on this webpage and decided it was time for me to get started. First of all I got this Computer(if you wanna call it that). I am also thinking about getting this monitor. This system is going to mainly be used for mp3's but I would like to be able to play dvd's in the future. I am planning on using CobraIII if the author will let me or CobraIV when it comes out. Please let me know any problems I may run into and let me know if there are any parts I will need to get to get this project running.
    Thank you in advance,
    Chris

You will need to use a controller card to use that laptop screen. Those can be expensive.

If you are trying to keep this system cheap, I suggest you find a different monitor. There are tons of laptop monitors out there for cheap, and the reason is, its not easy to make them work with a regular PC. However if you find the correct controller card it will work.

Another thing, why such a large computer. Large not meaning speed and such, but size?? That computer case is HUGE. Do you plan on using that case or taking out the parts and integrating it into your car?

    My 2 cents

I'm glad I haven't bought the monitor yet. Are there any "cheap" screens out there that can be intigrated cheaply? To answer your question about the size of the computer, I actually do plan on taking it apart and building a custom case. I am thinking about putting all of the computer equipment under the passenger seat.

i wouldn't use either of that if you are going to play dvd's in the future. A pentium will not handle software dvd decoding that well. You'd have to get a big time video card and even then it might not handle it. For dvd's you'll want a lcd with 16bit color. Thats probably like 8bit. You'll notice a big different. If you want to be able to scale up to dvd, i'd plan on getting better hardware since it'll save you money in the long run

I suggest you scrap that computer and get an integrated intel 810e motherboard with sound and tv-out on board and put a celeron 500 or something in it. u can find one of those boards for less than $100. For the monitor if you dont feel like bothering with a controller board get a 5.6" lcd screen for about $125.
