    J&W Minix 780G-SP128M AMD 780G Socket AM2+ Mini-ITX MB w/VID

Just curious why no one has mentioned the J&W Minix 780G-SP128M AMD 780G Socket AM2+ Mini-ITX MB w/VID

Is this considered a bad board or not appropriate for Carputer application? I think it's been out for a while and there's only 2 mentions of it throughout the entire forum and they're by the same individual.

If anyone has any thoughts about it, I'd be curious to hear them. From what I've read, it's a great mobo, but I'd like to hear some other opinions.

    Thanks!!

you can purchase them at geeks.com

you have 2x digital out, and you have a pcie 16x form but internally its only 4x

you got 2 mem slots too, can use 2x or 3x core cpus max of 65w

Actually, you can use the processors up to 95W, you just have to ensure that you have the appropriate cooling. Considering most CarPCs are in rather cramped spaces and cooling options are limited, you're right, the 65W cap is recommended.

I concentrate pretty hard on my cooling with my Desktop PCs (multi-block, multi-rad water-cooled systems) so it's only natural for me to aim for the best possible air-cooling with my CarPC.

Very interested to see what your reactions are to that board. It seems like a great option. The PCI-e limit to 4x seems irrelevant, considering the onboard video is MORE than enough for a CarPC (unless you're planning on playing CoD-WaW or something). The onboard audio also seems to be reviewed quite well.

Please be sure to get back to us with your feedback.

    Thanks!!

i do wonder what the performance of the 4x mean? someone said its pcie 4x 2.0 which is 8x 1.0?

but i would like to ask the question, isnt this enough for some video cads? because pcie of any flavor is faster then pci? and we have pci video cards out there so.. whats the big deal? of course you cant create an ultimate gaming rig out of this, thats a fact but you can create an adequate gaming or whatever system, i would guess?

also why isnt the 780G that popular? considering all the bump and underfill issues with nvidia i would personally stay clear far far away from them until the reports state that nvidia has fixed it in there new products, but as i have been reading they have not, and many lines of products are seeing failures after a few months due to those issues.

I have reading this topic but still can find a board that suites my needs.

What I want is a Mini-itx board witch needs to have on-board VGA chipset from ATI or Nvidia.
Also needs to have TV-out (s-video or composite)

Reason for this is that I want to build me a new system that doesnt need a PCI VGA card to be able to attche both headrest screens in the back.

I know that VIA mainboards do have TV-out,but problem is that they are not able to show different images on both outputs.

At this moment I use a ATI 7000 PCI card, and whit this card I am able to use NAV on my frontscreen and play movies on the headrest for the kids. (using Centrafuse)

Until know the only board that I found is the Ibase MB879.

Only things is that it's very difficult to buy one here in Holland.
Also searched on Ebay without luck

You will probably need a PCI card as Mini-ITX is obviously limited for size reasons. There are boards with nice onboard graphics but only use a single monitor out. The ones that have multiple outputs are going to be DVI/VGA or VGA/LVDS.

So, you should just use the PCI card, or go with PCI-express on the newer boards.

yup you wont find a mini itx, that i can think of that would have dvi and vga and tv out, there might be some intel or via chip sets that would have vga and probably tv out, but will not have the nice igp that you want from ati or nvidia

what is wrong with tv out usb?

TV-out USB?? What's that? And does Centrafuse recognize this as a secondary screen??
Because CF does recognize my ATI and therefore I can show all my movies on the second monitor.
