    led question

I have what I believe to be a simple question, but I can't find an answer. Are
automotive LEDs, like those used to replace dash lights, able to be adjusted for their brightness? Such as would the factory dimmer switch still work correctly?
I seem to remember that LEDs need a minimum charge and have a constant brightness, but its been a long time since experimenting with them.

    Thanks.

Most dimable indicator lights in my (slim) experience have actually been bulbs, and not leds, altho they are the size of a led. I just took apart my head unit and discovered this, also discovered that the green coloring is just a plastic "slip cover" over the bulbs. And if you varried the current to a led in proportion to the power for the rest of the electrical system (instead of dirrrectly with) you could probably adjust the brightness.
