I read a recent post on the "old LCD" topic just recently, have a look around the new posts. I think the conclusion was that its not very cost effective.
About the IRman, just order one from :

I ordered one with a credit card and it arrived from Denmark or somewhere like that in less than a week. Im in Melbourne BTW. It must be the best $35 US Ive ever spent

I have now decided this is NOT the way to go. It seems too involved. I really want to have a display like a normal computer as I would like to work on the computer in the car too. Perhaps I could find a cheap premade LCD solution or I might have to buy something expensive.....

Any suggestions for an in car computer display??

I too am looking for a display (in Australia) . So far I have come across the AVX7000, which is a Pioneer in car monitor. It is RGB, not composite, so the quality should be better than average. It's a tad dear, but it's all I have found is Oz that is fold away and does RGB.

    Is there anything else?

PC Man, I was at the Springy Swap meet on Sunday too. I came so close to buying one, but the Cher video they kept playing over and over put me off
For $350 they were a bargin, but where the hell do ya put one of those in your car?
Im guessing about halfway down your bonnet, dead centre.

Yeah I'm a Perthy myself I haven't seen anything like that over here. The best I've found is the pioneer. I would like a fold away single DIN option though. If you find a 6 - 8 inch screen TFT VGA, then that could be useful! But the 12 inch is just a TAD to big for me

The only cheap, complete LCD anyone ever found was a Sharp 10.4" LCD that a bunch of us bought for $300 US each. That was back in july, and the guy doesnt have any more. I am still about 6 months away from installing a complete system and I bought one.

    And the moral is....
if you find something cheap you'd better buy it quick, 'cause it ain't gonna be there long.
